The rise of false prophets & Teachers is occurring now and will increase before Jesus returns. Please, my brethren, the Word of God is our solid Rock, the Truth, and foundation to which everything else must be compared. And if a teaching does not correspond to God’s Word, it must be thrown out. We cannot put up with unsound doctrine, but instead, we must search the Scriptures daily to discover whether the things being taught to us are true (Acts 17:11-12) and rightly divide the Word of Truth (2 Timothy 2:15). Jesus warned us many times that there would be many false teachings in the last days.
“Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. (Matthew 24:11)
“For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand.” (Matthew 24:25; Mark 13:22-23)
Most prophets and teachers in our day are saying what people’s itching ears want to hear instead of what we need to hear. We learn from the Bible’s Old Testament that nearly all of the true prophets of God were persecuted. They were God’s messengers who testified the need to live a godly life in accordance to the will of God, the certainty of judgment for those who ignore this warning, and deliverance for those who repent.
In Jeremiah’s day, the false prophets said, “…’You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’ And the LORD said to me, ‘The prophets prophesy lies in My name. I have not sent them; commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision…. saying ‘Sword and famine shall not be in this land’….” (Jeremiah 14:13-15)
Like the days of Jeremiah, many prophets today are giving Christians a “false vision,” saying that Christians will escape all distress before Jesus returns. They are also saying what people’s itching ears want to hear instead of what we need to hear.
